Flexible IO
Each individual pin can be set to an input or an output. Not only that, the inputs can have internal pullups and Change Notification interrupts enabled - just like the real IO pins in your Arduino.
Even more IO
32 IO ports still not enough? Up to 4 of these boards can be stacked together, all sharing the same SPI pins, giving a massive 128 IO ports. Add one more chip-select pin on your Arduino and you can double that again to 256. And so on.
